UNIT 2: Parts Modeling  
     

Parts Modeling Tutorials   Suggested Time: 10 to 12 hours or 7 to 9 class periods.

  1. Introduction To Part Modeling
  2. Modeling Pattern Features
  3. Modeling Part With Sketches
  4. Modeling Thin - Region Features
  5. Modeling a Yoke
  6. Modeling Helical Features
  7. Modeling Lofted Features
  8. Modeling Swept Features

Learning Outcomes: Students should be able to use drafting software to create models and increase abilities for spatial visualization.

  1. Open Solid Edge Program. Go to the Help on the top menu bar and open the Tutorials
  2. Work through the 8 Part Tutorials (Before you start review the "Common Problems List" below.)
  3. These are step by step tutorials that show you each step in order. It is important to follow the tutorial carefully and not skip steps. You may find the first tutorials confusing and hard to follow but be patient and go through the tutorial a couple of times. After you do 1 or 2 of the tutorials students find that they go quicker and easy to follow.
  4. When you complete the tutorial save it as "T1_yourlastname_initial" in your "Drafting Folder" on wjm.
  5. Save all your Tutorials in a folder called "Tutorials_Lastname".
  6. Save it and also have a back up.
  7. Turn it in when requested.

 

Common Problems : Please review the following before you start it may save you some frustration.

  1. Problem: Text appearing on the tool buttons making the buttons so large they all don't appear on the screen

    Solution: Go to Tools on the menu bar. At the bottom of the Tools fly out click on Options. In the options window pick the Helpers Tab. Click off the Text on Buttons box. More Information

  2. Problem: The Tutorial script box reduces off the screen when ever you click on Next in the tutorial.

Solution: Click on the Tiling box in the upper right corner on the menu bar. More Information.

  1. Problem: Things aren't matching the step in the tutorial and your stuck.

Solution: Back up and undo work to the point in the tutorial where you were able to following it. Be patient and read through the next step carefully, you have often just missed a simple step or a number you were to put in. Redoing the tutorial is quick and makes more sense the next time.
